Miami Hurricanes 22, Texas A&M Aggies 27

The Texas A&M Aggies delivered in the rematch of last year's game with the Miami Hurricanes. And it was a hard-hitting affair. Miami QB Kirby Freeman threw an interception on the first play of the game into the hands of Jordan Peterson. On the Aggies' first play of the game, McGee was hit hard just as he threw and was taken out of the game with a Strained Quadricep. Jerrod Johnson took over the Aggie offense, leading the Aggies to the red zone before he fumbled on a scrambling play. Miami took over, and then Freeman was on the receiving end of a hard hit and was taken out for the rest of the 1st Quarter so that his elbow could be examined. Shortly after, Miami running back Javarris James was taken out of the game and put on IR for a week after he sustained a Strained Quadricep as well. After a 3 and out, the Aggies took over and marched back down into the red zone before Jerrod Johnson threw a pass to the endzone and had it picked off. Kirby Freeman came back into the game and took over the Miami offense at their own 4 yard line. Miami could not get past the 5 yard line, and on 3rd down, Freeman was sacked centimeters shy of the end zone, so close in fact that everyone at Kyle Field thought it was a safety, except for the officials. On the Aggies' next possession, Jerrod Johnson broke out on a 25 yard scramble to get the Aggies back into the red zone. Johnson handed the ball off to Mike Goodson, who ran up the middle to score the first points of the game and put the Aggies up 7-0. Miami's possession ended in another interception but the Aggies could not take advantage of the turnover. Miami took over and scored on a 54 yard field goal attempt to make the score 7-3 with a little under 2 minutes left in the half. Once again the Aggies couldn't get much going without their starting QB. On Miami's following possession, Freeman was hit hard again. He was taken out for the rest of the half and examined throughout halftime. Backup QB Wright led the Hurricanes down the field and threw a beautiful touchdown pass before the end of the half to put Miami up 10-7 at halftime. At the start of the 3rd Quarter, Johnson converted on 4th down by throwing the ball from about the 50 all the way down to Kerry Frank's hands at the 8 yard line to set up 1st and goal. On the next play, Johnson found Mike Goodson in the endzone, putting the Aggies up 14-10. Kirby Freeman returned to action once again, and threw a pass that looked like it was going to be stopped for a gain of 5 yards, but somehow WR Khali Jones broke out of the tackle and outran the Aggie defense for an 80 yard TD to regain the lead, but only a 2 point lead as the Hurricanes missed the PAT. On the Aggies' next possession, Jerrod Johnson once again showed his athleticism by scrambling 22 yards into the endzone, even breaking a tackle on his way to the TD. Miami's next possession ended in yet another interception, and Jerrod Johnson got the Aggies back into the red zone with his feet. Miami's defense stiffened, making A&M settle for the field goal to put them up 24-16 at the end of the 3rd quarter. At the start of the 4th, Kirby Freeman threw yet another interception to Jordan Peterson. Once again, the Aggies couldn't capitalize on the turnover and the next time Miami got the ball, Kirby Freeman threw a 57 yard TD pass as Lance Leggett broke a tackle and burned the Aggie defense. Miami failed to convert the 2-pt attempt and the Aggies marched down the field, eating up clock, before tacking on 3 more points to end the game. JJ finished 8 of 25 for 137 yards and a touchdown, with 109 yards and a TD on the ground. Mike Goodson had 30 rushing yards and a TD, with 3 receptions for 40 yards and a TD. Stephen McGee is cleared for action next week against Texas Tech.
